Matt Hancock, Health secretary, has announced a life assurance scheme for staff who are performing vital frontline NHS or social care work during the coronavirus pandemic, in recognition of the increased risks they face. A lump sum payment will be made to the deceased’s estate of £60,000 if they met the qualifying work-related criteria.
The lump sum will need to be claimed via a form certified by the personal representatives and the employer of the deceased. The personal representative will also need to provide a copy of the death certificate and either a grant of probate or letters of administration.
