As you may have heard, local councils have recently been receiving funds for the Restart Grant (RG) and Spring Back Payments (SBP). Applications may also still be possible up to 31 May 2021 to claim on the Local Restrictions Support Grant (Closed) (LRSGC).
If you are eligible for the LRSGC grant and haven’t yet received a grant, time is running out to claim it, and there is no guarantee that an application will be successful.
For the recently announced RG & SBP grants, Carlisle Council have already issued Restart Grants to 1,168 businesses automatically. In Allerdale, you have to apply for these grants, and if your business is eligible to claim the RG, then it can’t claim the SBP. Example guidance on these grants can be found at https://www.allerdale.gov.uk/en/coronavirus/coronavirus-business-grants-claims/ which also includes a link to claim if your business falls within the Allerdale Council Area. Other Councils grant schemes will be on their own websites, although they may be referred to under slightly different names. No application deadline has yet been published for Allerdale RG applications, however, if you are eligible and want to claim, it would make sense to claim as soon as convenient.
Restart Grants are made up of two “strands”, the first being non-essential retail premises with the second being for hospitality, leisure, accommodation, personal care & gyms. A full list of potentially eligible premises is also available at the above website. The level of grant funding available is again depending on the rateable value, grants being for £8,000, £12,000 or £18,000.
The Spring Back Payment is a discretionary grant scheme aimed at businesses reopening that have been severely impacted by Covid restrictions, but are not eligible to claim the Restart Grant. Again, if you are in the Allerdale Area, you can apply via the above website link, however, it should be noted that for Allerdale, the application window closes on 11th June 2021 at 5pm. This scheme offers generally up to £10,000 per application (although in exceptional circumstances, this could be more), depending on your businesses annual fixed ongoing business costs.
