The scheme which allows for employers to ‘furlough’ their employees was set to run until the start of June. However, Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer has today announced that it will already be extended to the end of June following the recent extension of the lockdown measures announced yesterday by Dominic Raab.
The extension to the scheme was made, as calls from many business groups highlighted that notice periods meant many employers would have to start laying off workers if the lockdown measures were set to continue, without the certainty of the scheme being extended.
