Yesterday the Chancellor announced a new package of financial support for businesses in the tourism and hospitality sector, in response to the increasing number of coronavirus cases that continue to impact this industry.
- Businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors in England will be eligible for one-off grants of up to £6,000 per premises. Eligible businesses include those that are experiencing difficulties because of the Omicron variant, and the dual impact of staff absences and lower consumer demand.
- An Additional Restrictions Grants top up for local authorities in England. This will allow local authorities to use their discretion to provide grants to other businesses, based on local economic need.
- Further funding for the Cultural Recovery Fund via a top up to support theatres, orchestras and museums through the winter to March 2022. Applications can continue to be made for these grants, please visit https://www.gov.uk/government/groups/culture-recovery-board for more information.
- The Government will also cover the cost of Statutory Sick Pay for Covid-related absences by reimbursing employers (with fewer than 250 workers) for the cost of paying statutory sick pay for up to two weeks.
